In today's society, hardly one can work alone. Taking into account that one day we are going to become computer engineers, communicating and working with each other will be part and parcel of our careers. We need to be effective communicators to build teamwork. Both qualities are closely linked. Let’s examine each quality closely.
Communication is simply getting your message across to the other person. However, it is not an easy task. There are language barriers, surrounding barriers and personal barriers that make communicating hard. Thus, effective communication is important.
Without good communication, we can have miscommunication. We can see that it has dire consequences in our society. Issues such as divorce and dispute between friends over the smallest issues are common. Consequently, it can take away lives too with the road accidents we see on the road everyday. As a motorist, I witness frequent vehicle accidents as I commute to school everyday. Thus, we need not only communicate but we need to make our messages clear to avoid all these.
Without communication, teamwork is almost impossible to occur. Like a professional football team, each players need to communicate with each other for the team to perform. This lead us to the next point on the importance of teamwork.
Teamwork is something that can increase motivation. In a successful team, with the right communication, the team can be motivated. In a game of soccer, when the midfielder passes the ball to the striker and he scored the goal, the whole team will enjoy a surge of motivation. They’ll be motivated to even score again. In comparison, when a group of computer engineers successfully run a program they created, it will give them the motivation to try something even more challenging.
In this society, we need teamwork to increase our efficiency. Compare two teams, one with better teamwork. We can observe that the better team will be the one with the teamwork. They will finish up the task faster with quality. The other group will probably be disorganised and the members will be working independently and not as a team, thus decreasing productivity and limiting quality.
Lastly, again to taste the success working in a team, one must be willing to break all the communication barriers. Just like in a construction yard, once we finally concocted the cement, we can start building houses.

Dear Ferrino,
ReplyDeleteI really like the picture you have at the top of the blog. It shows someone placing a loudspeaker against the other person’s ear in order to speak to him. It really illustrates the difficulty of getting our message across clearly to another.
In your third paragraph, you said “Issues such as divorce and dispute between friends over the smallest issues are common. Consequently, it can take away lives too with the road accidents we see on the road everyday.” I think that the word “Consequently” shouldn’t be used here. It illustrates a link between divorces and road accidents. It can confuse the reader as the paragraph is about the problems of poor communication. I think that you meant that poor communication can lead to many problems, ranging from smaller matters like arriving late to a meeting to divorces to even death caused by traffic accidents.
In your sixth paragraph, I like the way that you gave a comparison between the two teams. It is able to show the importance of teamwork pretty effectively.
Overall, I find your post to be extremely informative and containing many well thought out ideas.

Russell
Dear Ferrino,
ReplyDeleteI like the simile you use in the last paragraph. Fair enough, effective communication is the basis for teamwork. Taking into account that teamwork will be of such great importance to us in our career, practices to improve our communication skills should really start as early as possible.
I also appreciate the way in which you organize your post. It is coherent and all paragraphs are logically connected. With proper transitions, you make it very comfortable to deduce one point from another. Meanwhile, instead of presenting your points solely, you use exemplification on most of the points to avoid abstraction.
In paragraph 5, you mentioned that teamwork can increase motivation. I would like to add that most of the time a team is motivated because either it has a good leader or it has obtained success or can foresee a success, or both. So possibly, teamwork is not always a sufficient condition for increasing motivation. It can be a sufficient condition only when it is effective.
I agree with Russell that your post is very informative and containing many well thought out ideas. Keep it up and I look forward to your next post.

Shiyan
Dear Ferrino,
ReplyDeleteThere’s something about your post that I didn’t see in any other post. It is full of examples. That makes it a league apart. It is easy to understand and the reader can relate to it.
However, your tenses are not consistent in places like the soccer example of para 5. When we write different sentences, we sometimes write them in different tenses because our state of mind is different. But when we combine them, we must edit them so that they look coherent. I suggest you proofread the post once before publishing it.
I think the last paragraph can be rephrased to get the simile across more clearly. I suggest “To taste success while working in a team, one must first break all communication barriers, just like how in order to build a house, one must first concoct the cement”
Overall, your post is very visual for the reader, as the reader keeps picturing your examples in mind, which makes it a pleasure reading the post.
Cheers,
Anuj
Dear Ferrino,
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you on how important communication and teamwork are. We, as the future computer engineers, must realize their importance and start improving their skills as soon as possible.
Your post is full of illustrations which i find lacked of in mine. They make your post more interesting. I especially like your remarkable example of traffic accidents since communication is not just verbal language but also nonverbal language or signals ( like sound and light). It tells us that poor communication can lead to serious consequences.
You successfully point out that teamwork is based on communication and teamwork and increase efficiency.
Overall, i think your post is well organized with good clear statements at the beginning of each paragraph. Your ideas are very good and i hope you will keep it up in your next post
